Porsche and Aston Martin are set to integrate the next generation of Apple CarPlay into their vehicles, showcasing a significant evolution in in-car entertainment and connectivity systems. This advanced CarPlay system will be tailored to each brand, enhancing the overall driving experience by combining state-of-the-art technology with intuitive interfaces.
Porsche Focuses CarPlay on Performance
Porsche’s implementation of CarPlay reflects their commitment to a sporty driving experience, as noted by Michael Mauer, Porsche’s Vice President of Style. The new system will feature the brand’s iconic three-dial layout, which includes a speedometer, and circular graphics that nod to the gauges traditionally found in Porsche cars. This customisation extends to the placement of the dials and the arrangement of music and other apps to the side of the steering wheel.
Aston Martin Accents Driving Refinement
Aston Martin, on the other hand, is focusing on a blend of excellence and performance. As Marco Mattiacci, the Global Chief Brand and Commercial Officer, points out, the integration with Apple CarPlay aligns with their goal of creating the ultimate customer experience. Aston Martin’s version of CarPlay will feature a two-dial system to match their minimalist design and will be accented with British racing green, highlighting the brand’s heritage. The driver information system will also include a tachometer marked with “Handbuilt in Great Britain”.
Part of Wider Digital Vehicle Experience Vision
Both companies have emphasized the importance of digital offerings in enhancing the driving experience. Aston Martin plans to introduce the new CarPlay into their lineup in 2024, starting with the DB12 coupe and convertible. Porsche has not announced a specific launch date, but there is anticipation that the advanced CarPlay features might eventually extend to other brands under the VW Group, such as VW and Audi.
Other car brands such as Land Rover, Mercedes Benz, Lincoln, Audi, Volvo, Honda, Nissan, Ford, Jaguar, Acura, Polestar, Infiniti, and Renault are also expected to implement next-generation CarPlay 123. However, specific car models and launch timelines for the new CarPlay support have not been announced yet
This development underscores the growing integration of technology in automotive design, with customisation and personalisation at the forefront. Apple’s continued collaboration with leading automotive brands points towards a future where technology and luxury driving experiences are seamlessly integrated.
